Commando - A Love Story

A title like Commando would automatically imply an action film. But the makers of the upcoming release assert that it's essentially the story of a man (commando) and a woman, who he saves from goons, played by Vidyut Jammwal and Pooja Chopra.

"Action is an integral part of the narration, which you'll notice as the story progresses," says producer Vipul Shah, adding that there's also a good soundtrack. Interestingly, the film's promotional strategy could be compared to Gadar — Ek Prem Katha (2001) and Ghajini (2008). Both were initially promoted as action films, before the music and romantic aspects were highlighted. Vipul attributes it to his lead pair — Vidyut-Pooja — being new.

He explains, "My lead cast is new. And since action is the USP of Commando, it's the best aspect to register the film in the audiences' mind. Once that connect was established, we put out songs in our promotional campaign. We have a good soundtrack, that's why Saawan Bairi and Lutt Jaawaan made it to the charts. Since the core of the movie is a boy-girl relationship, the latest promos are a mix of action and romance with some music."

Vidyut feels that for any film, regardless of its genre, the binding factor will always be emotion. He says, "The story is always governed by emotions and elements like action, drama and music help highlight and magnify it. Commando is also a story governed by a volley of emotions — from patriotism and honesty to protectiveness and fondness — all of which finds expression in its high-octane action."

Commando, produced by Reliance Entertainment and Vipul Shah, releases April 12.

Vidyut Jamwal not nervous about Commando releasing during IPL

Vidyut Jamwal's Commando is releasing on April 12, in the midst of the Indian Premier League (IPL), but the actor isn't one bit worried.

"I feel IPL people must be nervous that Commando is releasing on April 12. I feel so because when a good movie and a good match normally come together, I watch the movie because the match I can later watch during its re-telecast," the 34-year-old said here on Thursday in an interview.

Meanwhile, besides the IPL, Commando also faces competition from another film - Nautanki Saala, which is releasing the same day.

However, Vidyut is unfazed even by this clash.

"It's not like a fight for us. I am just happy that people know about Commando. They know about the kind of action our film has, everything is real and no stunt cable or body double has been used. We have told people about all this and now it is upto them to come and watch it or not," Vidyut said.

Directed by Dilip Ghosh, Commando also stars former Miss India Pooja Chopra and Jaideep Ahlawat.
