No more nudity or lovemaking in Hollywood

Hollywood films are increasingly choosing not to show nudity or lovemaking. Here's why ...

Back in the '80s and '90s, when, judging by Bollywood, flowers got way more action than humans in India did, and a hero and heroine running around trees was Largely Understood by the Indian audience as code for 'they're doing it 'Hollywood was a lot less subtle acerca shoving lovemaking or woman-stripping-down-to-underwear scenes into every film - Whether it was a romcom or a film acerca Tom Cruise saving the world or even one acerca That was a bunch of people drowning on a ship. The script Demanded it, the audience Demanded it, and - judging by host Seth MacFarlane's 'boob song' at this year's Oscars, That detailed how a row of Oscar winning actresses bared Their chest in movies They won Their Oscar for - the critics Demanded it too!

Bizarrely, 2012-13 has seen a role reversal of sorts Between the two industries. While sex scenes are turning out to be major crowd pullers in desi theaters (Bhatt sahab Besides keeping still in business), a recent market report commissioned by Warner Bros have revealed That more and more U.S. studios, on the other hand, are choosing not to Their Protagonists have strip / consummate on screen Because, apparently, sex does not sell anymore. Your reaction to this May be 'whaaat?', And Rightly so, Because ACCORDING to the report, "one of the last big steamy moments to heat up cinema screens and score big box-office figures was the intimate in-car moment Between Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet in 1997's Titanic. " That was sixteen years ago! So, what happened?

Sex does sell, superheroes do
Judging by the summer's biggest blockbusters, the world needs lesser sex scenes, and more of the Avengers superheroes and Those space-alien-robots from the Transformers series. And more animated / CGI characters Certainly would not hurt. Just sample 2012's biggest Hollywood hits worldwide:
The Avengers - $ 1,511,757,910
Skyfall - $ 1,108,561,013
The Dark Knight Rises - $ 1,084,439,099
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey - $ 1,017,003,568
Ice Age: Continental Drift - $ 877 244 782
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 - $ 829,224,737
The Amazing Spider-Man - $ 752 216 557
Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted - $ 742 110 251
The Hunger Games - $ 691 247 768
Men in Black 3 - $ 624 026 776

As Vincent Bruzzese film research expert said in a recent interview, "Sex scenes used to be written, no matter the plot, to spice up a trailer. But today all that does is get to film an Adults-only rating and lose to younger audience . Today, Such scenes are written out by producers even before They are shot. They ask: do we really need the sex? Can we fill the Space with dazzling special effects instead and keep the family rating? "

As per some stats provided by The Sun, a decade ago, 120 films Given an 'R' (restricted) rating broke into the U.S. box office top 10. Last year, there were only 80. And the report says Most of These movies were certified 'R' Because of violence, and not sex. In fact, only one out of the 25 highest-grossing movies - The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 - had any getting-it-on sequence worth talking about.

Adrian Lyne, director of the mega-erotic films Fatal Attraction, Indecent Proposal and Unfaithful too Told Entertainment Weekly, "Fatal Attraction Would get made at a studio today? Not in a thousand years. I can not think of the last relationship That piece was a success - I'm not sure the studios even make them anymore. Which is apparently why I have not done something for quite a while now. "

Also, offending women is no longer such a good idea to
According To the report, it is women who form a major part of the movie-going audience, and "they find gratuitous sex scenes That Do not fit the plot a major turn-off". Recently, Alice Eve randomly and unnecessarily stripping to her underwear in Star Trek Into Darkness was so offensive Deemed its writer Damon Lindelof That actually took to Twitter to apologize to his fans, saying, "We Should Have done a better job of not being gratuitous in our representation of a barely clothed actress. " Director JJ Abrams too ADMITTED in an interview, "Some people see it as exploiting her (Eve), and while she is lovely, I can also see Their point of view."

The critics aren't a big fan of sex anymore
There was a time When Besides Holocaust movies, graphic nudity container containing films were Considered a soft spot for Academy voters. Halle Berry's sex scene in Monster's Ball was as much Talked about as her acting, same goes for Kate Winslet's derriere in The Reader. While hosting the Oscars in 2011, Anne Hathaway acerca had joked how she did not receive a nomination for her movie Love And Other Drugs DESPITE getting naked in it, while the kind of PR the lesbian scene in Black Swan Natalie Portman Could generated for only have Helped her bid to win the gold statuette. But this time around, Jennifer Lawrence, who won an Oscar for Silver Linings Playbook, did not have a single sex scene THROUGHOUT the movie - And This, DESPITE playing the role of a sex addict in it!

If we look at Bollywood though, Vidya Balan's ooh-la-la act in The Dirty Picture had critics throwing awards at her feet.

Also ...
The no-nudity clause is really, really expensive
Did you know Halle Berry was paid an additional $ 500,000 to flash her breasts briefly in Swordfish? The Telegraph points out, "Buying a Hollywood actress out of her no-nudity clause is an expensive business (a single bared breast will cost more than a cyber winged fireball-spewing dragon, voiced by Harrison Ford, and get fewer hits on YouTube) . "

Besides ... People Have ready access to porn
"You can not just put gratuitous T & A into movies anymore, like a steamy shower-sex scene out of nowhere. Those scenes are never rated highly by test audiences Unless it's part of the plot. Moviegoers will say, 'Why am I going to Pay to See That When I can google it? ', "says Bruzzese adds. Oddly, sex scenes are making quite a comeback graphic on U.S. television, on shows like Girls, Game Of Thrones and Homeland, que are a favorite with audiences and critics alike.

I was called an Indian princess at Cannes: Vidya Balan

Our girl in pink, Vidya Balan, on why Spielberg is like an uncle and how she's dying to be back in Kolkata with Kahaani 2

Flashing skin and looking OTT, she had shocked and awed at the press meet of The Dirty Picture. Only she Could have pulled off the pregnant belly During The Kahaani current promotions. But Thursday was different. In a polka-dotted top and Minnie Mouse hairdo for the Ghanchakkar promotions in Kolkata, she was a hint of sugar with a fair dose of spice. Obviously, Vidya Balan did not disappoint - but does she ever? Excerpts:

Between your last visit and now, so much has changed in Kolkata. Rituparno Ghosh is no more ...
It's shocking. Rituda had spoken to me about different films. It had Become a joke between us. Every year, I would call eleven o'clock to say, 'Ebar kortei hobe'. And I would say, 'Yes, Rituda, This year it's the end'. I heard almost seven-eight scripts over seven years. I remember him calling me on June 30, 2005. I had just finished the post-release promotions for Parineeta and was going to Tirupati with my family. I could not believe my ears! I had watched Asukh at MAMI and loved the film. Since then, we kept in touch. Whether it's a film called Rahgeer, revolving around a movie director and his muse, Debi Chowdhurani - we discussed This a lot. Then, there was another film That had short stories on divorce and marriage ...

Cannes How was the experience? You said you were treated like a princess, while the review back home differed Largely ...
Frankly, I do not read anything. I do not watch TV. There, I did not have email access. That's because i chose to concentrate on my jury duty. When you go for a movie, you are not allowed to take your mobile phone inside. I was disconnected from the rest of the world. I would only speak to (husband) Siddharth (Roy Kapur) and my family eleven to day. I did not know what was happening. There, everyone complimented me left, right and center. I was called an Indian princess and of course, the jury was treated like royalty. When I came back, I heard there has been some amount of criticism. Some people had really liked what I wore and some did not.

Is not looking good all the time too much of pressure?
I used to feel pressured till 2007. Not anymore. Even after That, I had Told myself I would not let pressure build. But It Takes a lot of time. Today, I do not read anything. I just look at the mirror, if I'm happy, I walk out. I can keep one person happy. But if I try to make the whole world happy, then chances are not only will they be unhappy, the person in the mirror will Also be miserable.

How was it meeting jury members Nicole Kidman and Steven Spielberg?
Nicole Kidman is as tall as the Qutub Minar. I have not met a woman in my life workshop and she was fantastic. She is very soft-spoken. Even When She laughs loudly, it's like laughing softly by our standards. They are all very gracious. Spielberg, Considering That he is The most successful filmmaker in the world, is extremely humble. I felt I was sitting with my own uncle. I Reminded me of a relative. He spoke to me like my uncle. At the end of the day, we got to share our passion for cinema and it was great being in That space. It gave me an opportunity to learn so much. Not just about cinema, I had a great realization - Either The most humble people Become really great or the greatest are the humblest.

Back to your film, how's Neetu, the homemaker in Ghanchakkar different from Vidya, the homemaker?
Very, very different. Neetu cooks all the time. And she dresses up all the time. She wears western clothes means only modern western thinking. So, she goes through fashion magazines, cuts out pictures of models. She can not afford designer wear, so she picks up Kapda from the wholesale market and Gives it to her tailor and says, 'This is the photo. Make it this way. ' She has her own way of dressing up, que is disastrous. Also, she is a full-bodied woman. After The Dirty Picture, Rajkumar Gupta told me, 'Do not lose weight. I want you to be like this'. During The Dirty Picture, I did exercise and barring the last part, I did not look flabby. Began When the abuse towards the end of the film, she was oozing all over. For Ghanchakkar, I did not exercise. Neetu is a normal person. The clothes she wears make her look bigger. Subarna Roychowdhury has done a wonderful job. She would pick up amazing stuff from Linking Road but then, Rajkumar said, 'You are dressing Neetu, not Vidya'. That Brought back perspective. And she came up with some outlandish stuff. I have some chappals That have bananas on top. Neetu is a bit mad and kinky as well.

Considering That Siddharth is the producer of Ghanchakkar, is it always work at home?
When Rajkumar came to me with the film, Siddharth and I were not married. We were seeing each other and by then, everyone Knew. Told apparently Siddharth Rajkumar, 'If you have to approach Vidya, do so by all means, but I'll have nothing to do with it. If she says yes or no, I'm out of the scene '. So Rajkumar came to me, but it took me eight months to say yes because i was busy in between with The Dirty Picture and Kahaani promotions. Finally, I said yes and when to I brought it up with Siddharth, I said, 'Do not tell me anything about the script. Just go and convey it to them '. And on everything, Whether it's money, contract, dates, we did not discuss anything. Not even our first impressions of the script. I did not even tell me after I saw Ghanchakkar. I really think he is ghanchakkar. I told him, 'Do not forget that I'm your wife now and You have to tell me'. I said, 'No, I do not want to discuss that'. This helps us retain the sanctity of our marriage. Yes, we talk acerca films. We watch a lot of films, TV shows together. With him, I've started going out a lot to the theaters. But we do not discuss work or people from work at all.

Emraan've Said That I can not talk about the kissing scene in the film, since your husband is the producer ...
Yes, there's a kissing scene. The film is acerca a couple who is married for five years. There's intimacy. I'm okay with it. Emraan likes to joke about it and keep the suspense up. But that's not the only element of suspense in the film.

Are you coming back to Kolkata with Kahaani 2?
I would love to. Please tell Sujoy (Ghosh) to write Kahaani 2 quickly. But I think he's a bit busy. He'll be involved in. completing Rituda's film and the script Might take a bit longer to finish. But I'm really looking forward to it.

Vidya’s one of the nicest humans I know: Rajkumar Gupta

She's bold, beautiful and an actress much in demand. After impressing all at the recent Cannes Film Festival where she served as a jury member, Vidya is Back with taste!

In a male Dominated industry, Vidya's in demand for her acting skills and her abitur to carry a film on her shoulders alone. And she did not fail to impress her Ghanchakkar Director Rajkumar Gupta.

Rajkumar says, "Vidya Balan was the only actress I Approached and had in mind for my film. The kind of layering I wanted in my film, She Could only give. She Takes the character and transforms it into something else. She puts a lot of effort herself. Eleven things we discussed This, she would give her own take on the character and she worked on it pretty early. Even on shoot, she would come up with something and we would Collaborate and work well together. She is one of the nicest human beings I know and one of the best people to work with ".

Happy not to play a protagonist in 'Ghanchakkar': Vidya Balan

Having shown please herself for portraying strong female characters, independent films, actress Vidya Balan had no qualms about playing second fiddle to Emraan Hashmi in her upcoming film 'Ghanchakkar'.

The 35-year-old actress is often credited for breaking the stereotypes of a heroine of Hindi cinema with his powerful performance in films like 'Paa', 'Ishqiya', 'No One Killed Jessica', 'The Dirty Picture "and" Kahaani '.

But Vidya is happy to leave his comedy mode power-woman and her debut as over-the-top, champagne housewife in Rajkumar Gupta directed film.

"I'm glad I'm not playing the protagonist in 'Ghanchakkar.'ve Done many times before. This film is Emraan. He is the main head here. And I'm very happy and comfortable with it. Gives me more opportunities to perform. I can be free and not feel any pressure on him, "Vidya said in a telephone interview from Mumbai.

The national award winning actress says although the film does not center around his character Neetu, still has much to offer women.

"The only take away from this movie for women is that it is about, a housewife, who is very happy with herself. She does not care about their weight, their habits, their looks. According to her is the best and there is a certain degree of confidence in it, "said Vidya, who was part of the jury of the Cannes Film Festival recently.

'Ghanchakkar' a comedy thriller, was produced by Ronnie Screwvala and Siddharth Roy Kapur Vidya husband. The movie hit theaters on June 28.

This is the second film with Gupta Vidya. The two previously worked together on commercially successful and critically 'No One Killed Jessica', which is based on the controversial murder of Jessica Lal.

INITIALLY Vidya says he was afraid to take on the role of a Punjabi housewife in the film and needed much persuasion.

"When I narrated this character Raj Neetu, a strong and vibrant, vivacious Punjabi housewife was not sure. I mean I just exit 'Dirty Picture'. But when I read the script I could not put it Down. Loudness There are but a different type of film.

"Raj told me that if I was not doing the film, I would not do the film at all. But in the end I'm glad I took it up. Trust Raj implicitly after working with him in 'No One Killed Jessica'" Vidya said.

Although I was nervous when entering uncharted territory with 'Ghanchakkar', the actress is happy to choose this film as his debut in the comedy genre.

"I think if I have to dabble in comedy, could not have better film than this. Could let my hair. Sorry madness Only when I eat out I am with people closer and making this film was that experience for me."

Vidya says it was a little hard for her to get into character in terms of appearance, as it was different from those who never played on the screen.

"My clothes in the movie were designed by Subarna Ray Chaudhuri, I've worked in 'Paineeta' and she said, 'I can not do this Vidya strange thing to you." But Raj told me to forget myself completely and Neetu-just think about how I would talk and dress. And we actually had a lot of fun. "

When asked how he prepared for his character, Vidya said, "all I had to work on my accent was Punjabi but not too much, also because my character lives in Mumbai."

Who's the next queen bee?

Bollywood is always looking for new faces and new talent. The burden of raising the glamor quotient of our films is the leading ladies behind, which makes it important for filmmakers to launch the new female carries Friday.

The current batch of the main heroines - Katrina Kaif, Kareena Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone and Vidya Balan - gradually getting demanding. Most of them have been around for a decade or close to a decade and they know about exposure could spell doom in an industry where heroines have a short shelf life.

That's where the new batch comes in. Hot Sonakshi Sinha, Parineeti Chopra, Alia Bhatt, Jacqueline Fernandes, Richa Chaddha, Nargis Fakhri and Huma Qureshi are making their way to the top. Each of these girls is trying to gain a foothold with a different image.

Most of these actresses have signed at least two or three films with prominent banners.

It is also interesting to note that each of these actresses are trying to experiment with new test papers and scripts in order to acquire a USP. Bollywood has always been a male-dominated bastion approaching - 50 heroes constantly looking heroines half his age to maintain a youthful image. That's where a makeover in the heroinesâ???? becomes essential list every few years. The filmmakers seem to be in the mood for a review heroines glamor at this point.

"Bollywood is driven by the male lead actor and overall freshness quotient of a film depends on the actress. This is why every filmmaker wants change hero and heroine in each of his new movie," says trade analyst Taran Adarsh.

"The success rate is a very important factor for the generation of new actresses to get into the top league. Though the film business is dominated by men, the actresses are judged largely on the basis of their last hit. Compatibility with the main actor is another factor that adds to a heroineâ???? s profile in addition to her beauty and talent, "adds Adarsh.
Each new girl is trying to gain a foothold with a different image. Most of them have at least two or three films on hand. We take a look at the new generation of actresses who are slowly and steadily in the brand and gunning for the top spot.

Wannabe Katrina Kaif with its own charm

Former Miss Sri Lanka Jacqueline has focused entirely on the exotic glamor quotient that made a superstar Katrina Kaif. He has worked for her so far, considering it has already made six films in four years. Sajid Nadiadwala Kick starring Salman Khan and Vicky Roy Singh opposite Ranbir Kapoor.

What works: Race 2 proved he can by the glamor quotient enough to steal the thunder even in a multi-starring. The fact that Salman Khan gave its approval to cast her in his next film, Kick, also works positively for her.

What goes against: So far it has been more than another version of Katrina Kaif, who has ruled the roost for a decade. Jacqueline has to give import the external image of a turn if you want to survive.

Last breath of exotic Oomph.

Nargis aims to achieve abroad - import support became hot after Katrina Kaif.

Coming soon: Shoojit Sirkar of Madras Cafe starring John Abraham, Tu Mera Hero Varun Dhawan David Dhawan and redo with Rumi Jaffery Shaukeen opposite Akshay Kumar. She has a three-film contract with Akshay flag.

What goes against: She already has 33, not a good age to start as glam in an industry that is constantly seeking new PYTs. In addition, she has to do something about deadpan expressions we saw in his film debut. Rockstar.

Parineeti Chopra
Young versatile screen presence

Parineeti impressed with a relatively small role in his film debut, Ladies vs Ricky Bahl before winning a special national award for his second film, Ishaqzaade.

Coming soon: deaths Shaad Ali Dil opposite Ranveer Singh, Karan Johar opposite Hasee Phasee Toh Siddharth Malhotra, Manish Sharma off.

What works: With only two films, it has been shown that it is a specialized actress. She is smart to stay out of the race glamor and positions itself as a mixture of the new era of Vidya Balan and Priyanka Chopra cousin.

What goes against: It lacks the glamor of its star Priyanka cousin. In Bollywood, as seen in the case of Konkona Sen Sharma or Mahie Gill, bank simply acting skills are never going to thrive.

Parineeti need to take some tips Priyanka glamor.

Huma Qureshi
Huma instantly became talk of the town with its raw appeal and conventional look when she made her debut in Anurag Kashyap's Gangs Wasseypur, where she played the little girl Mohsina Muslim city.

Coming soon: D-Day of Nikhil Advani and DEDH Ishqiya Vishal Bhardwaj. Trishna Michael Winterbottom yet to launch in India.

What works: Huma has become the quintessential sex symbol cerebral film that effortlessly exudes sensuality in Anurag Kashyap's Gangs Of Wasseypur. Its appeal was unusual advantage in his role Mohsina even when she appeared in flashy suits against wear designer put most of its rivals.

What goes against: the best has been seen so far only in Huma Anurag Kashyap films. She needs to explore good choices with other filmmakers to avoid being labeled as belonging to Kashyap field. She also has to watch his weight to stay in the race.

Each actresses trying experimental features scripts that try so purchased has been male-dominated bastion coming-heroines kept constantly is essential Filmmakers Alia heroines emerged as the child-wife of Bollywood. His role cheerful, elegant in Student of the Year was a breath of fresh air in the B-town and the actress immediately called the attention of a consummate filmmaker like Imtiaz Ali, who cast her in the road.

Coming soon: Imtiaz Ali Road opposite Randeep Hooda and Karan Arjun opposite Joharproduced 2 United Kapoor.

What works: Alia became an overnight sensation young because it presents a perfect blend of innocence and elegance in her role debut as Shanaya rich brat in Student of the Year. The raw appeal is being exploited by Imtiaz Ali while Alia is trying to turn around his image by playing on 2 beautiful Tamil Arjun Kapoor opposite states, based on Chetan Bhagatâ???? S best seller.

What goes against: With his baby face and Westernized image, Alia could easily get typecast. She will have to focus on mature roles at the same time, because the cotton candy roles dry with age. To establish itself as a complete package, you must carefully choose the roles that are different from their image.

Desi Diva Image with correct lineage

Traditional image of Sonakshi has worked in his favor. As a child star, she got a smooth entry into films as well as the support that comes from Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar. Successes Back-to-back has become a salable star.

Coming soon: Vikramaditya Motwane of 's Lootera, Milan Luthria's Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai Again, Tigmanshu Dhulia Bullet Raja, of Prabhudeva Rambo Rajkumar, along with gun and Welcome 2.

What works: Being the traditional actress has become a USP in a time when every budding actress is trying to acquire an ultra-modern westernized image. Most forthcoming films cast her in a picture Indian who has worked for her until now. It has also shown promise as an actress series so far.

What goes against: disastrous dance element Sonakshi Thank God it's Friday Himmatwala showed his inability to be to be super glamorous, if you want to be a superstar heroine is very necessary to Bollywood. I could get with a traditional box after a while

Richa Chadda

Poster girl of experimental cinema

A scene like Dolly Oye Lucky! Oye Lucky! Richa was enough to reveal their talent. She has become the new poster girl art film, which can take any experimental paper.

Coming soon: the Mrigdeep Lamba Fukrey, Tamanchey of Navneet Behal, Ram Leela Bhansali Sanjay Leela.

What works: Richa realistic portrait in Anurag Kashyap Gang Wasseypur Series gave the spotlight. She experiments with papers and desist from cursing or speaking words or go to erotic scenes if the script demands it.

What goes against: Requirement Bollywood women leaders includes much of the charm and Richa has to prove he can fit that bill, too. To test its glamor quotient, which recently fired a bikini for a film magazine.

But she seemed to feel comfortable in photographs. She has to push the envelope and demonstrate proficiency in functions not yet fully exploited.

Emraan doesn't talk about onscreen kissing with Vidya Balan

Mumbai: Known as a serial kisser your screen liplocks with almost all of his actresses, Bollywood actor Emraan Hashmi said on Thursday that he would not seek publicity talking about kissing scenes in her upcoming movie with Vidya Balan. Bollywood’s Style-Quotient @ Cannes 2013

Cannes 2013 is on and this year the festival will see the largest contingent of Bollywood as Cannes is celebrating 100 years of Indian cinema. Bollywood stars who have landed on the Riviera are Amitabh Bachchan as the Cannes Film Festival 12 days opened with a screening of The Great Gatsby, Vidya Balan, part of the illustrious jury, the lovely Frieda Pinto and Sonam Kapoor is there as one of the Brand Ambassador of L'Oreal.

Cannes Film Festival is heavily guarded by fashion to dwell on the style quotient celluloid divas. Vidya Balan made three appearances, all in traditional Indian clothing by Sabyasachi Mukherjee - one in a brown lehenga (I loved the simple Choli strikingly devoid of any adornment), other in a lovely ivory sari with a brown blouse with embroidery gold on the shoulders and a final in peach color lehenga style selection Mughal royalty for Gatsby. The final look was a bit much for me.
Big B made a couple of appearances. The sports jacket / safari Bachchan was misplaced. The rest of the Gatsby team wears gray and black. Safari Jacket Bachchan striped blue and white pants and shoes do not complement your natural style. And gawd that belt at the waist was a disaster. In the Great Gatsby projection Amitabh Bachchan was again the odd one out in bright blingy jacket. Bandhgala could have gone with sober if I wanted bling embellishments.

Sonam Kapoor Nath apna utaar please do. (No pun intended! Nath Utaarna also means losing your virginity, I'm sure Sonam is made.) Our style diva also opted for an off white sari (Anamika think) jacket with a full-sleeve work trellis for the Gatsby screening, but huge nose ring was definitely an eye sore. Another aspect in Anamika Khanna jacket festooned with lattice pairs of high-waisted pants were smart. She was also seen with Frieda Pinto in black and gray set was nice but I have my reservations about wether gold pendants were his eyes.

Oh yes Mallika Sherawat was there in the projection Great Gatsby in a sleeveless yellow-orange. Thank God there were no cracks or sheerness or cleavage revealing elements as a whole

Rani Mukerji signs Aditya Chopra's next film Mardaani

Pradeep Sarkar has not signed his preferred actress Vidya Balan, but gone ahead with the YRF favourite

Aditya Chopra has signed his ladylove Rani Mukerji for his upcoming film, Mardaani. The film will see Rani playing a cop. According to sources, it is the boldest subject attempted by the Yash Raj Films (YRF) till date.

While YRF spokesperson confirmed the news, Sarkar said: "The film will be raw and gritty. It is something that neither Rani nor I have attempted before. And it's always good to invade in new territories, isn't it?"

Previously, Sarkar has directed Rani Mukerji-Abhishek Bachchan starrer Laaga Chunri Mein Daag and Deepika-Neil Nitin Mukesh starrer Lafenge Parindey. Said Sarkar: "After Lafenge..., I was working on Mardaani. I didn't make much noise about it and people wondered where I had gone. I directed many ads in the interim. But now I am bursting to get back on film sets."

When asked why Rani and not his favourite Vidya Balan, whom he introduced in Parineeta, Sarkaar replied, "Yes, Vidya is my favourite. But I have other favourites too. And Rani is definitely one of them. I have a very comfortable equation with Rani. And things just fell into place as far Rani's inclusion in the film is concerned. I told Adi that we should go with Rani in Mardaani."

Elaborating further on the project, Sarkar said:"I am looking forward to direct this big one for YRF. We shall be shooting the major portions of the film in Mumbai."

Mardaani, which will go on floors sometime towards end of this year, will be Rani's eleventh film for YRF. Her last film under the banner, Dil Bole Hadippa!, had tanked at the box office.

After a few setbacks, Rani had recently bounced back with her powerful portrayal of a headstrong journalist in No One Killed Jessica (2011, she won a Best Supporting Actress Award at Filmfare) and a grieving mother in Talaash (2012).
