MET GALA 2013

Before the media going crazy on the red carpet stains on the big steps of the Met to the Met Gala in New York tonight, let's remember why it's all happening: the benefit of "Punk: Chaos sewing "Costume Institute exhibition, opening to the public on May 9 and continues until August 14.

Judging by these photos just released, the exhibition looks set to be as exciting as the big party tonight. The exhibition explores the influence of punk couture and prêt-à-porter and examines how designers have borrowed iconic symbols of the movement as pins, studs, leather and tear. The exhibition features more than 100 designs, 1970 original punk clothing latest fashion pieces.

The designers featured in the exhibit include Christopher Bailey Burberry, John Galliano, former Balenciaga designer Nicolas Ghesquiere, Karl Lagerfeld, Christopher Kane, Miuccia Prada, Riccardo Tisci of Givenchy, Gianni Versace, Yohji Yamamoto, Helmut Lang, Hedi Slimane, and Vivienne Westwood . Exhibition galleries are devoted to the various "heroes" that define the genre. Sid Vicious, for example, is represented in the DIY gallery while Malcolm McLaren and Vivienne Westwood are the focus of another area.

A gallery of eye-grabbing bathroom includes a recreation of the legendary club CBGB famous.
